The Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular SUVs in India and many other markets. It offers a rugged design, spacious cabin, powerful performance and off-road capabilities. The current generation of the Fortuner was launched in 2016 and received a facelift in 2020. However, Toyota is already working on the next-generation model, which is expected to debut globally in 2024. Here are some details about the engine and mileage of the upcoming 2024 Toyota Fortuner.
2024 Toyota Fortuner Engine Option
According to various sources, the 2024 Toyota Fortuner will be based on the new TNGA-F platform, which can accommodate both internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrid powertrains. The new Fortuner will also get a mild-hybrid system paired with the existing diesel engine. This technology will work in tandem with the engine to optimize performance and efficiency.
The diesel engine is likely to be the same 2.8-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged unit that powers the current Fortuner. It produces 204hp and 500Nm of torque and comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The mild-hybrid system will add a 48V battery and a small electric motor generator to assist the engine during acceleration and braking.
The petrol engine is also expected to be carried over from the current model. It is a 2.7-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit that makes 166hp and 245Nm of torque. It also comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The new Fortuner will also get Toyota’s 4×4 system with a low transfer case for better off-road performance.
2024 Toyota Fortuner Mileage Figures
The official mileage figures of the 2024 Toyota Fortuner are not yet available, but we can expect them to be slightly better than the current model, thanks to the mild-hybrid system. The current Fortuner has a claimed mileage of 10kmpl for both the petrol variants and 8kmpl for the diesel variants. However, these figures may vary depending on driving conditions and habits.
The real-world mileage of the current Fortuner is reported to be around 9kmpl for the petrol variants and 7kmpl for the diesel variants. The mild-hybrid system may improve these figures by around 10-15%, depending on how it is tuned.
Here is a table summarising the expected mileage figures of the 2024 Toyota Fortuner:
|Real World Mileage
|Diesel Manual Hybrid
|Diesel Automatic Hybrid
The 2024 Toyota Fortuner will be a major upgrade over the current model, with a new platform, design, features and hybrid technology. The engine options will remain largely unchanged, but the mild-hybrid system will enhance the performance and efficiency of the diesel variants. The mileage figures will also improve slightly, making the Fortuner more economical to run.
