Who is Hayley Matthews?
Hayley Matthews is a talented cricketer from the Caribbean island of Barbados. She was born on January 22, 1998, in Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados.

Matthews is a right-handed batter and off-spin bowler who made her debut for the West Indies women’s cricket team at the age of just 16. She has since become a key player for the team, known for her explosive batting and accurate bowling.

Despite excelling in track and field and winning a gold medal for javelin at the 2015 CARIFTA Games, Matthews decided to pursue cricket, much to the benefit of West Indies cricket. She made her international debut in September 2014 in a T20 match against New Zealand, and soon after, made her ODI debut against Australia, where she impressed with her batting and offbreaks.
During West Indies’ 2015 tour of Sri Lanka, Matthews emerged as the highest wicket-taker for both the ODIs and T20Is, proving her all-round abilities. She was a surprise selection in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League, playing for Hobart Hurricanes, where she gained invaluable experience playing against international opponents.
Matthews rose to fame during the 2016 Women’s World T20, where her youth and audacity shone through in the final against three-time champions Australia. With the help of her 66 off 45 balls, West Indies successfully chased down 149 runs, securing their first world title.
