Mahindra Thar is one of the most popular off-road SUVs in India. It has a loyal fan base who love its rugged looks, powerful performance and adventurous spirit. The current generation of Thar was launch in 2020 with a new design, features and engine options. However, some customers felt that the Thar was too cramp for their family and luggage needs. The Thar 5 Door will also have some cosmetic changes to differentiate it from the three-door model, such as a new grille, bumpers, tail lamps and alloy wheels.

The Thar 5 Door will have the same engines as the three-door:

A 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 150 PS and 320 Nm. It has a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
A 130 PS/300 Nm 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It has a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.

Both engines have four-wheel drive with low-range gearboxes and mechanical locking differentials. The Thar 5 Door will also have three driving modes: Normal, Rough and Wet.

The mileage of the Thar 5 Door is expected to be similar to the three-door model, which has an ARAI-certified mileage of 15.2 kmpl for both petrol and diesel variants. However, the real-world mileage may vary depending on the driving conditions, terrain and load. According to some user reviews, the petrol variants of the Thar can deliver around 8-10 kmpl in city and highway driving, while the diesel variants can deliver around 9-11 kmpl.

The Thar 5 Door will also have a fuel tank capacity of 57 litres, which gives it a decent range for long-distance trips.
