Mahindra, the Indian SUV specialist, has unveiled a stunning concept of an electric version of its iconic off-roader, the Thar. Mahindra Thar e Design and Platform – Images
The Vision Thar.e is based on the new INGLO-P1 platform, which is a dedicated EV platform that will also underpin five other all-new electric SUVs from Mahindra. The platform is modular and variable in length, wheelbase and height, allowing for different body styles and configurations.
The Vision Thar.e retains the rugged and adventurous spirit of the Thar, but with a futuristic and bold design that sets it apart from its predecessor. The concept features a boxy and upright form, with squared-off fenders, exposed hinges and flat panels. The front fascia has a rectangular grille with quartered and square LED headlight units, while the rear section is blacked out to make it look more compact. The concept also has a raised Baja-type suspension, which gives it a high ground clearance and off-roading capability.
Mahindra Thar.e Powertrain and Performance
The Vision Thar.e is powered by a 80kWh LFP chemistry blade lithium-ion battery pack from BYD, which is one of the largest EV manufacturers in the world. The battery pack can be charged using a fast charger or a regular wall socket. The concept has two options for the electric motor: a 228bhp, 380Nm motor from Valeo or a 282bhp, 535Nm motor from Volkswagen. The rear-wheel-drive version will have one motor on the rear axle, while the four-wheel-drive version will have an additional 107bhp, 135Nm motor on the front axle. The electric motors will deliver instant torque and power from idle speed, making the Vision Thar.e a formidable off-roader.
