What is NEET Cut-off?

NEET cut-off is the minimum score that a candidate must secure to qualify for the exam and to be eligible for counselling and admission. The cut-off score is different for different categories of candidates. The NTA decides the cut-off score based on various factors such as:
- The difficulty level of the exam
- The number of candidates who appeared for the exam
- The number of seats available in various colleges
- The reservation policy of the government
The cut-off score is expressed in terms of percentile, which means the percentage of candidates who have scored equal to or less than a particular score. For example, if the cut-off percentile for general category is 50%, it means that 50% of the candidates who appeared for the exam have scored equal to or less than that score.
NEET UG Cut-off Marks 2023
The NTA has released the category-wise cut-off percentile and marks for NEET UG 2023 along with the result. The cut-off marks are the marks corresponding to the cut-off percentile. The cut-off marks vary every year depending on the performance of the candidates and other factors.

NEET Merit List and Counselling
The NTA prepares two types of merit lists based on the NEET result and cut-off:
- All India Merit List: This list contains the names and ranks of all the qualified candidates in order of their AIR. This list is used for admission to 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical and dental colleges across India, except in Jammu and Kashmir. The AIQ seats are also available for candidates from Jammu and Kashmir who have opted for them at the time of registration.
- State Merit List: This list contains the names and ranks of all the qualified candidates belonging to a particular state in order of their state rank. This list is prepared by the respective state authorities based on the domicile criteria and reservation policy of that state. This list is used for admission to 85% state quota seats in government medical and dental colleges and all seats in private medical and dental colleges within that state.
The counselling and seat allotment process for NEET UG 2023 will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for AIQ seats and by the respective state authorities for state quota seats. The counselling will be done online in multiple rounds based on the availability of seats and the preferences of the candidates. The candidates will have to register for counselling, fill their choices of colleges and courses, lock their choices and wait for the seat allotment result. The candidates who are allotted seats will have to report to the allotted colleges for document verification and fee payment.
The counselling schedule and procedure will be announce by the MCC and the state authorities soon on their official websites. The candidates are advise to keep checking the websites for updates and follow the instructions carefully.
