What is the Tata Altroz EV?

The Tata Altroz EV is the electric version of the Altroz, which is a premium hatchback that competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz. The Altroz EV was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, along with the Nexon EV and the Sierra EV concept. The Altroz EV is based on the same ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform as the regular Altroz, but with some modifications to accommodate the battery pack and electric motor.
Exterior Look
The Tata Altroz EV looks very similar to the regular Altroz, except for some cosmetic changes to differentiate it as an EV. The Altroz EV gets a new front grille with a blue accent, a revised bumper with a larger air dam, new alloy wheels with blue highlights, and a ‘Ziptron’ badge on the fender. The rear of the car also gets a blue accent on the tailgate and a ‘Ziptron’ badge on the boot lid. The Altroz EV will be available in three colours: Teal Blue, High Street Gold and Downtown Red.

Interior Features
The interior of the Tata Altroz EV is expect to be similar to the regular Altroz, with some changes to suit the electric theme. The Altroz EV will get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with EV-specific information, automatic climate control, cruise control, ambient lighting, connected car technology and a Harman sound system. The car will also offer ample space for five passengers and a decent boot space of around 300 litres.
Electric Motor
The Altroz EV will be power by a 129 PS electric motor that will draw power from a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The battery pack will be liquid-cooled and IP67 rated for water and dust resistance. The car will also feature regenerative braking to enhance the battery life. The Altroz EV will have two driving modes: Drive and Sport.

Range
The Tata Altroz EV is expected to offer a claimed range of around 300-350 km on a single charge, depending on the driving conditions and mode. The car will also support fast charging, which can charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent in around an hour using a DC fast charger. Alternatively, it can also be charge using a standard AC wall socket, which will take around eight hours for a full charge.
