The Tata Punch EV is a subcompact electric SUV that is expected to launch in India by early 2024. Upcoming Tata Punch EV will have a spacious and modern cabin with seating for five passengers. It will also get some new features and upgrades over the ICE version, such as:

  • A new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo and haptic touch controls
  • A rotary drive selector and an electronic parking brake, similar to the Nexon EV Max
  • A 360-degree camera, which is currently available only on the Harrier and Safari
  • A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility
  • A digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, push-button start, keyless entry, etc.

The Tata Punch EV will retain the same design language as the ICE Punch, but with some subtle differences to distinguish it as an electric vehicle. Some of the exterior changes are:

  • A new five-spoke alloy wheel design, different from the ICE Punch
  • Disc brakes on all four wheels for better braking performance
  • A closed-off front grille with a blue accent and a Ziptron badge
  • A revised rear bumper with a faux skid plate and no exhaust pipe

Tata Punch EV Range and Battery

The Punch EV will use the Ziptron powertrain that consists of a liquid-cooled battery pack and a permanent magnet synchronous motor powering the front wheels. The exact specifications of the battery and motor are not known yet, but Tata Motors could offer multiple battery pack options to cater to different customer needs, as it does with the Tiago EV, Tigor EV and Nexon EV.

The expected range and charging time of the Tata Punch EV are also not revealed yet, but it is likely to support fast charging as well as regular charging options. The Ziptron powertrain also comes with an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty on the battery and motor.

Dimensions, Boot Space and Ground Clearance of Punch EV

The Punch EV will have similar dimensions as the ICE Punch, which measures 3840 mm in length, 1725 mm in width, 1615 mm in height and 2450 mm in wheelbase. The boot space of the ICE Punch is 366 litres, which could be slightly reduce in the EV version due to the battery placement. The ground clearance of the ICE Punch is 187 mm, which could also vary slightly in the EV version depending on the suspension tuning.

Punch EV Launch Date and Price in India

The Tata Punch EV is expected to launch in India by February 2024, ahead of the festive season. It will compete with other subcompact electric SUVs like the Citroen eC3 and the MG Comet. The expected price range of the Tata Punch EV is Rs. 11.23 lakh to Rs. 13.97 lakh (ex-showroom).
