Top selling car brands in August 2023

Maruti Suzuki
The undisputed leader of the Indian car market, Maruti Suzuki, maintained its top position with a sales of 1,51,614 units in August 2023. This was a 12.208% increase from the 1,34,166 units sold in August 2022. Maruti Suzuki’s popular models such as Swift, Baleno, WagonR, and Dzire contributed to its strong performance.
Hyundai
The second largest car brand in India, Hyundai, also recorded a positive growth of 8.36075% in August 2023. The Korean carmaker sold 53,830 units in August 2023, up from 49,510 units in August 2022. Hyundai’s new launches such as Alcazar and i20 N Line helped it attract more customers.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors was the third best selling car brand in India in August 2023, but it witnessed a slight decline of – 3.57124% in its sales compared to August 2022. The homegrown carmaker sold 45,515 units in August 2023, down from 47,170 units in August 2022. Tata Motors’ Nexon, Altroz, and Harrier remained its top selling models.
Mahindra
Mahindra was the fourth best selling car brand in India in August 2023, and it registered a remarkable growth of 22.89% over August 2022. The SUV specialist sold 37,270 units in August 2023, up from 29,615 units in August 2022. Mahindra’s new offerings such as XUV700 and Bolero Neo boosted its sales.
Toyota
Toyota was the fifth best selling car brand in India in August 2023, but it faced a negative growth of – 6.24596% compared to August 2022. The Japanese carmaker sold 20,970 units in August 2023, down from 22,322 units in August 2022. Toyota’s Innova Crysta and Fortuner remained its best selling models.
Kia
Kia was the sixth best selling car brand in India in August 2023, and it achieved a impressive growth of 24.9283% over August 2022. The Korean carmaker sold 19,219 units in August 2023, up from 14,959 units in August 2022. Kia’s Seltos and Sonet were its most popular models.
Honda
Honda was the seventh best selling car brand in India in August 2023, and it recorded a marginal growth of 1.41862% compared to August 2022. The Japanese carmaker sold 7,880 units in August 2023, up from 7,769 units in August 2022. Honda’s City and Amaze were its top selling models.
Skoda
Skoda was the eighth best selling car brand in India in August 2023, and it registered a slight growth of 1.9932% over August 2022. The Czech carmaker sold 4,307 units in August 2023, up from 4,222 units in August 2022. Skoda’s Kushaq and Rapid were its most demanded models.
MG Motor India
MG Motor India was the ninth best selling car brand in India in August 2023, and it witnessed a decent growth of 9.04096% compared to August 2022. The British carmaker sold 4,185 units in August 2023, up from 3,823 units in August 2022. MG Motor India’s ZS EV and Hector were its best selling models.
VW
VW was the tenth best selling car brand in India in August 2023, and it achieved a phenomenal growth of 67.9506% over August 2022. The German carmaker sold 4,174 units in August 2023, up from 2,057 units in August 2022. VW’s Taigun and Polo were its most popular models.
