Nexon Facelift vs Current Nexon: The Tata Nexon is one of the most popular compact SUVs in India, thanks to its stylish design, spacious cabin, feature-rich equipment list and strong safety credentials. However, the Nexon is not resting on its laurels and is gearing up for a major update in the coming months. Tata Motors is expected to launch the Nexon facelift by August 2023 with extensive changes inside and out. In this blog post, we will compare the upcoming Tata Nexon facelift with the current Nexon and see what’s new.

The Nexon facelift will sport a fresh exterior design that will borrow heavily from the recently showcased Tata Curvv concept. The front end will get a twin-part grille with diamond-shaped inserts, a full-width LED light bar above the grille, a flatter nose and a new headlamp design that will be positioned lower down. The side profile will remain largely unchanged except for new alloy wheels. The rear end will also get a makeover with new tail-lamps, a connected LED light bar, dynamic turn signals and a flatter tailgate.

The current Nexon has a more rounded and curvy design with a single-piece grille, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, fog lamps with cornering function, dual-tone roof rails and 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear end has split LED tail-lamps, a roof spoiler and a faux skid plate.

The Nexon facelift will also see a major overhaul of the interior with a significant step-up in quality and equipment levels. The dashboard design will be revised and will feature a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that will also be seen on the Harrier and Safari SUVs. The Nexon facelift will also get a new digital instrument cluster, a new two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with toggle switches and haptic buttons, a new touch panel and toggle switches for the HVAC control and a bigger sunroof. The seats will also get new upholstery options.

The current Nexon has a more conventional interior design with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an analog instrument cluster with a 7-inch MID, a three-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and an electric sunroof. The seats are upholstered in fabric or leatherette depending on the variant.

The Nexon facelift will come loaded with features that will make it one of the most advanced SUVs in its segment. Some of the expected features are:

The Nexon facelift will get an all-new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that was previewed with the Curvv ICE concept. This engine will produce 125hp and 225Nm of torque, which is 5hp and 55Nm more than the current engine. The Nexon facelift will also continue with the 115hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine that offers 260Nm of torque. Both engines will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT gearbox.

The current Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 120hp and 170Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that delivers 110hp and 260Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT gearbox.

The Nexon facelift is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current Nexon due to the additional features and updates. The current Nexon is priced from Rs 8.50 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) for the petrol variants and from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) for the diesel variants.

Verdict

Upcoming Tata Nexon facelift will be a significant upgrade over the current Nexon and will offer a more modern and premium design, a more spacious and feature-rich cabin, a more powerful petrol engine and new tech like ADAS. The Nexon facelift will also get an EV version that will have slightly different design updates. The Nexon facelift will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport in the compact SUV segment.
