Tata Motors is working on a new mid-size SUV that will be positioned between the Nexon and the Harrier in its portfolio. The new SUV is codenamed as the Blackbird and is expected to be launched in 2024.
The Blackbird will be based on the Generation 2 platform, which is compatible with both ICE and EV powertrains. The Blackbird will have a length of around 4.2 meters, making it slightly smaller than the Harrier.
The interior of the Blackbird will be spacious and premium, with dual-tone dashboard, leather seats, and chrome accents. The Blackbird will have a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls, and a digital instrument cluster.
The Blackbird will also have some advanced features, such as a panoramic sunroof, voice command support, cruise control, ambient lighting, multi-function steering wheel, and a surround sound system. The Blackbird will also have up to six airbags, ABS with EBD and ESP, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat anchors for safety.
The Blackbird will be powered by two engine options - a 1.5-litre turbo diesel and a 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit. These are the same engines that power the Nexon as well. The diesel engine will produce 115PS of power and 300Nm of torque, while the petrol engine will generate 125PS of power and 225Nm of torque.
