Both the Yezdi Scrambler 334 and the New Triumph Scrambler 400 X sport a neo-retro theme with ‘tear-drop’ shaped fuel tank and circular design elements such as LED headlamps, LED turn indicators, rear-view mirrors and LED tail lamps. They also feature a tuck-and-roll seat, a long and braced handlebar, a high-mounted exhaust and a minimalistic rear fender.

However, there are some differences in the styling cues of these two bikes. The Yezdi Scrambler 334 borrows its design from the iconic Yezdi Roadking of the past, with a ‘beak’ under the headlight, a single-pod instrument cluster, a blacked-out engine and a dual-tone paint scheme. The New Triumph Scrambler 400 X, on the other hand, derives its design from the Triumph Scrambler 900, with a twin-pod instrument cluster, a silver-finished engine with machined cooling fins and a triangular-shaped alternator cover.

The Yezdi Scrambler 334 and the New Triumph Scrambler 400 X are powered by an all-new liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that displaces 398cc. The engine is named TR-series by Triumph, after the TR5 Trophy that Triumph raced at the 1948 International Six-Day Trial. The engine features DOHC architecture, four valves per cylinder, fuel injection, ride-by-wire technology and a counter-rotating balancer shaft.

The output of the engine is identical for both bikes: 29hp at 8000rpm and 28.2Nm at 6500rpm. This puts them close to KTM’s 390 lineup in terms of power and torque, but they make their peak figures earlier in the rev range. Both bikes also get a six-speed gearbox with a torque-assist clutch that reduces lever effort and prevents rear wheel lock-up during downshifts.

Chassis and Suspension

The Yezdi Scrambler 334 and the New Triumph Scrambler 400 X use a new hybrid spine/perimeter tubular steel frame with a bolt-on rear subframe. However, there are some differences in the chassis and suspension setup of these two bikes, depending on their intended use.

The Yezdi Scrambler 334 is more suited for road riding, with 17-inch wheels at both ends wrapped in Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres that offer good grip and handling. The suspension consists of a 43mm inverted big-piston fork with 140mm of travel at the front and a monoshock with external reservoir and adjustable preload with 130mm of travel at the rear.

The New Triumph Scrambler 400 X is more geared towards off-road riding, with a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel shod with Metzeler Karoo Street tyres that offer better traction on loose surfaces. The suspension offers more travel than the Yezdi, with 150mm at both ends. The fork is set further forward and the chain is longer, resulting in a longer wheelbase for more stability.

Brakes and Electronics

The Yezdi Scrambler 334 and the New Triumph Scrambler 400 X are equipped with disc brakes at both ends, with four-piston radial calipers at the front and single-piston floating calipers at the rear. The New Triumph Scrambler 400 X gets a slightly larger front disc (320mm) than the Yezdi Scrambler 334 (300mm), probably to compensate for its higher weight (179kg vs 170kg).

Both bikes also come with Bosch dual-channel ABS as standard, which can be switched off on the New Triumph Scrambler 400 X for off-road use. They also feature switchable traction control that can be adjusted according to the riding conditions.

The instrumentation of both bikes combines an analog speedometer with an integrated LCD that shows engine speed, fuel level, gear position and other information. A USB-C port allows for convenient charging of handlebar-mounted devices such as smartphones or navigation systems. The bikes are also pre-enabled for optional heated grips.
