Chris Hemsworth is widely known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, in 2020, he starred in a different kind of action movie for Netflix: Extraction. The movie featured Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a black-ops mercenary who is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of a drug lord in Bangladesh. The movie showcased impressive action sequences, including a 21-minute-long “oner” that appeared to be filmed in a single take.
But what about Extraction 3? Will there be a third installment in the franchise? Here is everything we know so far.

Is Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 confirmed?
Netflix has not officially confirmed Extraction 3 yet, but Hemsworth has expressed his interest in returning as Tyler Rake for another adventure. In interview he said:
I love it. I love playing the character. I love this world. I love having something else outside of Marvel that’s amassed a bit of a following, something more in the real world.
I honestly feel like we made a better film than the first one. That’s rare in the franchise world. We’d be remiss not to have a crack at another one.
The Russo Brothers, who produced and wrote the first two movies, are also hopeful that they will return for a third chapter. Joe Russo told Collider:
I mean, you never want to anticipate the audience’s response, but there’s certainly room for an Extraction 3. There are some surprises in Extraction 2 that could open up the world of Extraction, on top of which, I think Sam Hargrave did an incredible job with this film, and I think that he has topped the first one.
Sam Hargrave, who directed both movies and performed many of the stunts himself, revealed that there is already a story in development for Extraction 3. He said on BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast:
There is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can’t say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.
Therefore, it seems likely that Extraction 3 will be made, pending Netflix’s approval and audience’s reception.
When will Extraction 3 be released?
If Netflix greenlights Extraction 3 soon, we can expect it to be released sometime in 2024 or 2025. The first movie was released in April 2020, while the second one was released in June 2023. The gap between the two movies was partly due to the pandemic and Hemsworth’s commitments with Marvel movies.
However, it is unlikely that the third movie will take that long to make, as Hemsworth has already completed filming Thor: Love and Thunder and has no other confirmed projects lined up at the moment. He might also be keen to return to his home country of Australia, where both Extraction movies were partly filmed.
Who will be in the cast of Extraction 3?
Assuming that Hemsworth will reprise his role as Tyler Rake, we can also expect some of his allies and enemies from the previous movies to return. These include:
- Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan, Rake’s partner and friend
- Tornike Gogrichiani as Ovi Mahajan Jr., the son of an Indian drug lord who Rake rescued in the first movie
- Adam Bessa as Yaz Khan, Nik’s brother and Rake’s teammate
- Daniel Bernhardt as Gaspar, Rake’s former friend turned rival
- Tinatin Dalakishvili as Irina Aslanova, a Russian arms dealer and Gaspar’s wife
- Olga Kurylenko as Anna Mason, Rake’s ex-wife and CIA operative
- Idris Elba as Solomon Kane (rumored), a mysterious villain who hires Rake for his latest mission
We might also see some new faces joining the cast, depending on the plot and location of Extraction 3.
What will be the plot of Extraction 3?
The plot of Extraction 3 is still under wraps, but we can speculate based on the ending of Extraction 2. The movie ends with Rake completing his mission and killing Kane (or so he thinks), but not before discovering that Kane is actually his long-lost brother who faked his death years ago.
Rake also learns that Kane is working for a shadowy organization called The Syndicate, which is behind many of the world’s conflicts and crimes. Rake decides to go after The Syndicate and expose their secrets, with the help of Nik, Yaz, Anna, and Ovi.
However, in a post-credits scene, we see that Kane is still alive and has a metal arm. He vows to get revenge on Rake and his team, setting up a potential showdown in Extraction 3.
We can expect Extraction 3 to explore more of Rake’s backstory and his relationship with his brother, as well as the origins and motives of The Syndicate. We can also expect more explosive action scenes in exotic locations around the world, as Rake and his team try to stop Kane and his cronies from causing more chaos and destruction.
Is there a trailer for Extraction 3?
There is no trailer for Extraction 3 yet, as the movie has not been officially confirmed or filmed. However, you can watch the trailers for Extraction and Extraction 2 below to get a sense of what to expect from the franchise.
Where can I watch Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3?
If Extraction 3 gets made, it will most likely be released exclusively on Netflix, just like the first two movies. Netflix has a deal with the Russo Brothers to produce several movies and shows for the platform, including The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, and Magic: The Gathering, an animated series or shows which is based on the popular card game.
Netflix also has a good relationship with Hemsworth, who has starred in other Netflix originals such as Dhaka (2019) and Spenser Confidential (2020). Hemsworth has also expressed his gratitude to Netflix for giving him the opportunity to star in Extraction. He said on Instagram:
